FAQ

  • What does Move in Serenity mean?

It means trusting the natural rhythm of your body and life. Movement becomes not about performance, but about finding balance, calm, and strength in stillness and motion.

  • What is Daoist Flow?

Daoist Flow is a movement practice inspired by Daoist traditions. It combines flowing Qigong and Tai Chi-inspired movements with traditional Yoga principle, mindful breathing and somatic awareness. The practice helps bring inner balance, improve energy flow, and cultivate harmony between body, mind, and nature.

  • What is Yoga?

It’s a holistic practice spearheaded by India that connects movement, breath, and awareness. It helps you build strength, release tension, and find balance in both body and mind. It is a practice including the entire system, physical and mental.

  • What is Qigong?

Qigong is a gentle, flowing practice part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that combines movement, breath, and intention. It’s designed to cultivate your life energy (Qi), improve circulation, and support physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Alternative spellings you will find: Chi Kung, Qi Kung, Qi Gong, Chi Gong.

It is a sister practice to the more known martial art Taichi (Taiji, Taiji Quan).

  • What is Somatic Movement?

Somatics focuses on sensing your body from the inside out. It helps release tension, improve movement patterns, and create more awareness of how your body feels.

  • What is Nervous System Regulation?

Nervous system regulation means using practices like breathwork, gentle movement, and mindfulness to calm stress responses. It helps your body shift from fight-or-flight into balance, so you feel safe, centered, and resilient.

  • What is "my" approach?

My approach blends Yoga, Qigong, and Somatic practices with modern movement science. It’s functional and trauma-informed, designed for people with hypermobility, neurodivergence, or anyone wanting to reconnect with their body. I combine Eastern wisdom and Western biomechanics to create mindful practices that support nervous system regulation, ease, and resilience.

  • Why combine Yoga and Qigong?

Both are ancient traditions that bring harmony to body, breath, and energy. Together, they complement each other. Dating back to the earliest records of both practices revealed historic interconnectedness, timelines of interchanging and learning from each other.

  • What is functional Yoga?

Functional Yoga is a modern approach to yoga that focuses on how each pose works for your unique body, rather than how it looks. It blends traditional yoga with movement science, helping you build strength, mobility, and awareness in ways that support your daily life.

  • What is Hypermobility and Why does it Matter?

Hypermobility means that your joints move beyond the normal range. For some people it’s just flexibility, but for others it can cause pain, fatigue, or instability. In movement practices, hypermobility matters because it changes how muscles and connective tissue work — often requiring more support, stability, and nervous system awareness.

  • What is Neurodivergence?

Neurodivergent/Neurodivergence is a term for people whose brains work differently from the “typical” way. It can include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. Being neurodivergent often means experiencing the world with different sensitivities, rhythms, and needs — which is why practices that are adaptable, calming, and non-judgmental are so important.

  • What is the difference between Neurodivergence and Trauma?

Neurodivergence refers to natural differences in how the brain is wired — for example autism, ADHD, or dyslexia. These are lifelong traits that shape how someone experiences the world.

Trauma, on the other hand, comes from overwhelming experiences that affect the nervous system, often leaving the body stuck in patterns of stress or protection.

Both can affect movement, energy, and regulation, but they arise from different roots. The good news is that practices like Yoga, Qigong, and Somatics can support both — helping the nervous system find balance, safety, and ease.

  • What if I am just stressed?

You don’t need to be hypermobile or neurodivergent to benefit. Stress alone affects the nervous system, leaving the body tense and the mind restless. Gentle movement, breathwork, and practices like Yoga or Qigong can help calm stress responses, regulate energy, and bring you back to balance.

  • What does trauma-informed mean?

Trauma-informed means creating a safe, choice-based practice where you’re never pushed beyond what feels right. It acknowledges that everyone carries different experiences and nervous system needs.

This is particularly important also for neurodivergent people as they often don’t identify with Trauma yet benefit form the same approach.

  • What is Fascia and why is it important?

Fascia is the connective tissue that weaves through your whole body. Healthy fascia supports mobility, stability, and energy flow — and practices like Yoga and Qigong can help keep it supple and responsive.

  • Do I need to be flexible to start?

Not at all. Flexibility is not a requirement — it’s something that may develop naturally over time. These practices are about presence and connection, not about how far you can stretch.

  • Can I join if I’m a beginner?

Yes. My classes are accessible for all levels. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, you’ll find ways to adapt each practice to your body.

  • Do online classes really work?

Yes — with clear guidance and mindful pacing, online practices can be just as powerful as in-person. You can practice in the comfort of your own space, with support and connection through the screen.
